Proper packing is essential to sustain a smooth and hassle-free move. here are 3 essential packing tips everyone needs to know before a relocation.

Packing Plates

One of the biggest mistakes made in packing plates is that they are placed; stacked over one another, flat into a box. Plates are more susceptible to breaking this way; the right way is by placing them pressed together and placed in the box rim first. Make sure the plates are wrapped with cloth, newspaper, or even foam plates to avoid them crashing into one another and breaking. Moreover, keep the bottom of the box padded so that the rims won’t chip away.

Packing Clothes & Shoes

The usual way to pack clothes is just folding in a regular box, the lazier crowd will simply toss everything in a garbage bag and carry it out. The problem with this is that you can fit more clothes than anything else in a box and this makes the boxes heavy and susceptible to tear. Use your suitcases to transport your clothes, they’re built for travel and can withstand a lot (plus transportation won’t break your back). If you’ve run out of suitcases, no problem, there are specially designed boxes that are used for transporting clothes without having them damaged.

The best way to pack shoes more effectively is to store them in wine boxes, to make sure they don’t lose their shape place a pair of socks in each shoe. This way you’ve hit two birds with one stone by packing your socks as well.

Packing Perishables

There are two things you should know about packing perishables;

  1. Pack your cooler closest to the departure and unpack it first. Make sure your fridge is connected at least 24hrs before your move so the temperature is well adjusted when it's being used the next day.
  2. Freeze any juice or water beforehand, this makes packing a lot easier and in any case where the bottle breaks or what have you the liquid won’t damage your other goods.
  3. Salted butter in the air tight containers
  4. Ketchup
  5. Tomatoes, apples and berries (fruits, in general)
  6. Jam
  7. Kraft grated parmesan cheese – Unlike most cheese, this cheese doesn't need to be refrigerated after opening.
  8. Bread

All this being said there are certain food items that we regularly store in the fridge, which don’t need to be refrigerated. Hence, could be left for last;
